ISLAMABAD: Low voter turnout and violations of the election law were seen in the by-elections held in eight National Assembly and three Punjab Assembly constituencies on Sunday, according to a report released on Monday.According to a study by the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), “just 35% of the registered voters showed up on election day, […] constituencies remained quiet with isolated incidents of anomalies.”
According to the report, voter turnout was generally lower than it was in the General Elections (GE) of 2018. In the by-elections, male turnout fell from 57.3% in the GE-2018 to 39.5%, while female turnout fell from 45.0% to 29.7%.In comparison to the 1,962,800 voters who cast ballots in the GE-2018, 470,890 fewer voters cast ballots in total.
