The minds behind the cutting-edge Parisian fashion brand Coperni are Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant. The design team, who wed on a remote Greek island last year, pushed the limits of fashion technology even farther for the brand’s spring/summer 2023 collection. In a preview of the performance via Zoom before it began, Vaillant describes it as “our celebration of women’s silhouettes from centuries ago.” Meyer continues, “And we wanted to update our style in a more mature and scientific approach, too.
The exhibition, which was held in the Salle des Textiles at the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, featured a wide variety of noteworthy fashion moments. The designers took playing with historical proportions seriously, creating enlarged hips with padded tailored wool pants, profuse fabric draping on miniskirts, and leather coats that could be artfully knotted around the waist to simulate the bustle of the 19th century. There were other separates that nodded to the present, with squared and bulbous shoulders. Meyer chuckles when he says, “The squareness actually comes from the figures you see in the online game Roblox.
The accessories are also significant to consider. Gabriele Veneri, an Italian craftsman from the Semar SRL firm, created an 18-carat gold version of the well-known Swipe bag, which is believed to cost up to £100,000, FYI. The Lady bag, a wider, more demure piece, and a new glass bag, similar to the viral one from last season, which was embellished with flowers and had the glass treated to give an iridescent effect, are among the new bags. The Vanit-E is a cube-shaped top-handle bag as well. The Matrix-inspired clip-on sunglasses were another addition to the brand’s signature futuristic-chic style.
