KARACHI: Since Friday night, Karachi has been experiencing sporadic monsoon rains that have submerged a number of the port city’s low-lying neighbourhoods. More intense storms are expected in the evening.
A new stretch of the monsoon system that entered Sindh from Rajasthan is predicted to cause the port city to receive 130 to 150mm of rain, according to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz.
After 10:30am, most areas of the city experienced heavy rain.Heavy monsoon rains were reported in a number of regions of the city, including Malir, the vicinity of the airport, Sharae Faisal, University Road, Gulberg, Sohrab Goth, and the Old City area.
According to chief meteorologist Sarfaraz, the rain’s heaviness is anticipated to worsen in the evening. He insisted that the majority of the port city’s areas will probably experience severe rain in the late evening or early morning.
The current period of monsoon rain is anticipated to last for the following three days, said Sardar Sarfaraz, adding that the sporadic showers are expected to last till 12pm tomorrow.
