With their victory in the third and final T20 International match against Pakistan on Wednesday in Lahore, the Ireland women’s cricket team secured the Twenty20 International series.
It was the first Twenty20 International series victory for Ireland in Asia, and it was also the first Twenty20 International series triumph for them away from home. Ireland defeated Pakistan by a score of 2-1.
Ireland scored 167 runs during their first innings at the Gaddafi Stadium after electing to bat first.
The top-order batsmen for Ireland made significant contributions to the team’s total score, with opener Gaby Lewis setting the pace with 71 runs scored off 46 balls. Her remarkable knock consisted of 11 fours and a six.
Orla Prendergast racked up 37 runs off of only 23 balls, while Amy Hunter, another opener who batted with Lewis, scored 40 runs in 35 balls.
Nida Dar, Nashra Sandhu, and Ghulam Fatima all took one wicket for the Pakistani side in this match.
Pakistan was bowled out for 133 in 18.5 overs while attempting to chase down the intimidating mark.
Opener Javeria Khan hit 50 runs in 37 balls, with the aid of seven fours; however, she could not find much support from the other end as Pakistan continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.
During Pakistan’s attempt to score runs, Ireland’s Arlene Kelly and Laura Delany each took three wickets to help limit their opponent’s scoring potential.
Abby Lewis was able to secure the honor of player of the match and player of the series. She scored 144 runs in the three T20 internationals with a strike rate of 130.90, making her the highest scorer overall.
In the first women’s Twenty20 international match of the series, which took place on Saturday in Lahore, Ireland triumphed against Pakistan by six wickets. On the other hand, Pakistan got back on track and won the second Twenty20 international by six wickets on Monday.
It is important to remember that Pakistan had previously won the ODI series by a score of 3-0 before moving on to the T20I series.
