I found the fragrance of innocence and love
In the angelic smile of a babe, a gift of spring.
When we are children, we are all alike.
We make friends, without prejudice or greed.
We help each other in the time of dire need.
We are ignorant of racial or religious feuds.
Under the canopy of love, we are all one.
We use neither swords nor bombs nor guns.
As children, we greet each other with trust.
Friendship is our goal, our cherished ideal.
As adults, we sow the seeds of dissent.
We allow malice to grow in our hearts.
Conflicting ideas become the source of rancor.
In the name of religion, politics, and arrogance,
We bomb neighboring countries and leave
Innocent civilians choking on their own blood.
Return to childhood innocence so that we may
Leave the world intact for the children of tomorrow.
