Anjali, a 21-year-old woman from the Bihar province of India, passed away last week after allegedly being forced to drink acid by her husband and in-laws.
The victim’s family claimed that she was being tortured by her husband and in-laws since they were unable to pay the dowry three months prior in the amount of 200,000 Indian rupees and a motorcycle.
Dharmendra Sahni, Anajli’s cousin, claimed that she wed on May 2 of this year and that her in-laws forced her to consume acid after first pouring it on her.
They also made Anjali drink acid, and then they took her to a luxury hospital in Manjhaul where she spent a week fighting for her life.She was transferred to another private nursing centre in Begusarai town as her condition worsened on Wednesday, where she eventually passed away from her burn injuries, according to Sahni.
