According to investigators, a gunman killed nine people, including five children, at a Russian school on Monday before committing suicide.
The reason for the shooting in Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurtia region about 970 kilometres (600 miles) east of Moscow, remained unknown.
The gunman was wearing a balaclava and a black tee-shirt with Nazi symbols, according to Russia’s Investigative Committee, which handles major crimes. It stated that his identity had not yet been determined.
According to the committee, the other victims included two teachers and two security guards. The number of people injured was still being determined.
In recent years, there have been several school shootings in Russia.
In the city of Kazan in May 2021, a teen gunman killed seven children and two adults. An armed man killed two children and a teacher at a kindergarten in the central Ulyanovsk region in April 2022 before committing suicide.
