LONDON: Liz Truss, a British contender for prime minister, led Rishi Sunak by 24 points, according to a YouGov survey of Conservative Party members released on Thursday.
The front-runner to become the next prime minister of Britain, Liz Truss, criticised Rishi Sunak for his tax policies as finance minister as the two candidates started their six-week campaign.
The foreign minister said that Britain was “going in the wrong direction on taxation, with the tax burden at its highest in 70 years.” She pledged to stop the green tax on energy prices and reverse recent increases.
As the UK tries to rebuild its public finances in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak and amid spiralling inflation, Sunak, who directed the tax increases, has labelled those calling for cutbacks practitioners of “dream economics.”
