Employees from the company’s e-commerce, payments services, internet services, advertising, and smart devices departments will be housed in the new facilities.
Since its establishment in the Kingdom in 2020, the firm has hired more than 1,400 employees in Saudi Arabia.
The e-commerce behemoth is aiming to create a new project to train local talent in addition to building the new office; further information about the programme is expected to be made public later this year.
Abdo Chlala, Director of Amazon GCC, stated in a statement, “At Amazon, we speak about employing builders who will help us develop and innovate on behalf of our consumers.
We anticipate welcome not just our current builders into our new office, but also bringing in and nurturing new talent through our planned talent initiative.
Vice President of Amazon Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Ronaldo Mouchawar, also made a statement, expressing the company’s “pleasure” to serve consumers in the Kingdom and promote its social and economic development.
Since purchasing souq.com in 2017, Amazon has operated in the Kingdom.
In June 2020, when Amazon.sa received user data from souq.com, it made its formal debut.
In Saudi Arabia, Amazon Prime was introduced in January 2021. Riyadh and Jeddah now provide same-day delivery options.
Additionally, it debuts Alexa, a virtual assistant, for the first time with a Khaleeji (Gulf) dialect Arabic option.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also inked in March between Amazon with the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Investment (MISA) and the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority to help SMEs there.
