In the midst of a mobilisation push for the military campaign in Ukraine that exposed significant logistical issues, Russia announced on Saturday that its highest ranking general in charge of logistics had been replaced.
Army General Dmitry Bulgakov has been removed of his duties as deputy defence minister, and Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev will take his position, the military ministry announced on Telegram.
British authorities have imposed sanctions on Mizintsev, 60, for his part in the siege of Mariupol, a port city in Ukraine that was taken by Russian forces in May.
The military operation exposed significant logistical weaknesses in the Russian army, as well as previous victories by the Ukrainian army.
According to some commentators, the Russian army’s logistics are even its weakest link, having been a problem ever since the offensive’s start.
The armed forces face yet another logistical issue as a result of the partial mobilisation that was declared in Russia on Wednesday.
Prior to being sent to the front lines, the vast majority of Russia’s reservists will need to be activated, outfitted, and trained.
