KARACHI: Ghulam Nabi Memon, the Sindh Inspector General of Police, anticipates that the police department would receive a share of Rs135 billion in the budget 2024–2025, which is Rs10 billion higher than last year, as the Sindh government prepares to release its budget.
The budget for the fiscal year 2024–25 will be presented in the provincial parliament of Karachi today by Syed Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh and the province’s finance minister.
In an interview with Geo News, Memon proposed many ways to increase enforcement within the police agency by using budgetary funds.
Rather of giving the money to the cops, the Inspector General suggested spending it directly at police stations. According to him, a police station’s budget belongs to its SHO because it is the department’s fundamental unit.
He stated that strengthening the investigation was his other budgetary priority. He recommended that the investigating officer have a digital wallet for the expenses, noting that an IO was typically awarded funds upon concluding their inquiry.
“A digital wallet will be used by an investigation officer to obtain an advance budget,” he stated.
Memon stated that the budget included a proposal for police officials’ wellbeing. He claimed that State Life Insurance has set aside Rs. 5 million for police personnel’ health insurance.
From the Inspector General to the constable, every police officer would receive Rs. 1 million. With that money, they could receive medical care from any hospital,” he stated.
He informed them that the majority of the suggestions were aimed at improving the culture of the police station. In addition, a budget for centralized surveillance was suggested, and each district would obtain a model police station.
“We’ll build 200 of these police stations initially,” he said.
To combat crime in the province, the Sindh IG announced that there would be 484 police stations instead of 618. He said that police station mobile vehicles will also be replaced.
