NUSA DUA: In rare discussions intended at healing relations that are at their worst in decades, US President Joe Biden told his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Monday that they were both responsible for keeping their superpower struggle from descending into violence.A day before a Group of 20 (G20) summit that was expected to be tense due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the two leaders clasped hands and grinned before their national flags at a posh hotel on Indonesia’s Bali island before their first in-person talks since Biden took office.
Before a meeting that lasted just over three hours, Biden embraced Xi and said, “It’s just great to see you.According to a White House readout, Biden did bring up a number of challenging subjects during the three-hour meeting, including the US objections to China’s “coercive and increasingly aggressive actions toward Taiwan,” Beijing’s “non-market economic practices,” and procedures in “Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong, as well as human rights more generally.”
