According to Guinness World Records, a man from the United States set the record for the fastest time to eat the hottest peppers, the Carolina Reaper chillies.
Gregory Foster, a California resident, ate all of the chillies in 33.15 seconds. Surprisingly, the man broke his own record of eating three Carolina Reapers in 8.72 seconds set nine months ago.
Foster set the record on September 17, according to GWR. According to the outlet’s website, the Reapers are known for being the hottest chilli peppers in the world. They outnumber all others, including ghost peppers and jalapenos.
Experts use Scoville Heat Units to determine how spicy a pepper is. They measure the concentration of certain chemical compounds in chillies that are responsible for hot sensations.
According to GWR, the Carolina Reapers have 1,641,183 Scoville Heat Units.
Foster is a chilli expert who also owns a hot sauce company. His farms are where he grows his chillies. “I guess it’s the passion for pain,” he told GWR.
The record-breaker compared the experience to eating charcoal “as quickly as possible.”
“This is the one part of the job that I despise,” he said, according to the record-keeping outlet. “However, it’s the one aspect of the job that everyone else enjoys.”
Foster advised contestants to keep ice cream and milk on hand while practising or performing the stunt.
