Islamabad – Imran Khan has been barred from serving in parliament after being found guilty of “corrupt conduct” by Pakistan’s election commission (ECP), which reached a unanimous conclusion.
Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party vehemently disapproved of Friday’s decision and urged members to demonstrate.
A Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) member brought the lawsuit against Khan in August, alleging that the former prime minister had purchased gifts from the official gift repository, also known as Toshakhana, but had failed to reveal the assets in statements made to the commission.
The ECP’s judgement, according to Chaudhry, is “embarrassing” and “a smack in the face” for the people of Pakistan.
