Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI and a former prime minister, asserted on Thursday that the government made every attempt to defeat his party in the by-elections in Punjab.
Even after winning the by-election, Khan vented his frustration with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a speech to his party supporters that was broadcast on television. He argued that those in charge of the Punjab by-election should face consequences.
The PTI chairman accused Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja of being biassed and claimed that he had never encountered a more “dishonest” election official.
The PTI continued to file accusations regarding rigging, but the ECP did not take them seriously, Khan remarked, underlining the alleged wrongdoings of the CEC.He added that if the largest political party in Pakistan, the PTI, doesn’t trust the chief election commissioner, “he should retire.”
“We do not want to contest the general elections under the leadership of the existing chief election commissioner,” he stated.
