Powerful winds and drenching rain battered Florida’s Gulf Coast, prompting authorities to tell residents it was too late to evacuate as the storm’s eye approached shore with close to Category 5 strength.
Local TV and social media footage of the storm’s fury showed floodwater nearly reaching rooftops in some communities, sweeping away cars and the ruins of homes, and palm trees bent almost in half.
One of these videos, which was posted on Twitter, showed a fish swimming in flood water right in the middle of the road, and the user who posted it said it was a shark.
While the user claims it was a shark, the image is too blurry to tell what kind of fish it was.
Some social media users stated that they were scared after watching the video, while others stated that it was “fake.”
Regardless, locals told Newsweek that they had seen a variety of dangerous animals in the water, including alligators and snakes.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has warned residents that more animals, such as snakes and bears, may appear.
“Remain alert and give them space,” the statement advised.
