KARACHI: Haleem Adil Sheikh, the leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly and a member of the PTI, was detained by a team from the anti-corruption establishment (ACE) in Jamshoro. Details indicate that Haleem Adil Sheikh went to a Jamshoro anti-corruption court to appear before it, but the ACE squad detained him outside the building.
An associate of the PTI leader who was with him during his detention claimed that he had gone to the court to submit his reply on the case. He claimed, “We went to join the investigation, but they arrested him in another case recorded against him. He continued by saying that Haleem Adil is currently being held at a police station and that the police have shown them a letter from East Karachi’s anti-corruption organisation, on the basis of which the arrest was made. Sheikh had already been detained, and most recently, on July 6, he was taken into custody in the early hours while in Lahore.
According to Raja Azhar, persons in civilian clothes from a nearby hotel in Lahore were responsible for Haleem Adil Sheikh’s arrest while the Dolphin police team was present. He claimed, “We kept asking them where they were taking him, but they wouldn’t answer. He revealed that the opposition leader’s home in Karachi had been searched by the police three days earlier. He claimed that the PPP was upset with the opposition leader and sought to have him arrested on fabricated accusations. However, he was ultimately freed after the Lahore High Court mandated that he be promptly released from police custody.
