Karachi experienced heavy to light rain on Friday, bringing relief after enduring a severe heatwave that resulted in two heatstroke deaths the previous day. The rainfall affected various areas, including Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Surjani, North Karachi, New Karachi, Malir, Cantt, Mosmiyat, Shahrae Faisal, Bahadurabad, Tipu Sultan, Gulshan-e-Maymar, and Gadap.
The heatwave had gripped the port city for several days, with temperatures reaching 40.5°C and feeling as high as 56°C. The usual July temperature in Karachi is 27.9°C, but the city experienced unusually high temperatures, with Tuesday night being the second hottest this year at 32°C, after July 1.
The heatwave was exacerbated by hours-long unannounced power outages, despite assurances from the power utility.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and a westerly wave affecting upper parts of the country would bring rain and thundershowers to various regions. Sindh, south Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, the Potohar Region, Islamabad, and Kashmir were expected to receive rain. Additionally, heavy rainfall was anticipated at isolated locations in south Punjab and lower Sindh.
