Senator Faisal Javed, the head of the PTI, concurred on Thursday with the top court’s recommendation that the party seek re-election to the legislature.
The Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) earlier suggestion that PTI legislators should return to the National Assembly was seconded by the Supreme Court earlier today.
Faisal claimed in a media interview that Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, appreciates the legal system and has always advocated abiding by the law.
The PTI leader insisted that conducting polls was the only way to address the existing “issues” and that the country had “given their answer” in favour of the PTI.
The PTI case, which contested the IHC’s ruling that the National Assembly Speaker’s acceptance of party resignations in stages was valid, was heard by the highest court earlier today.
The PTI’s argument against the progressive acceptance of resignations was heard today by the two-member highest court bench, which was made up of Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial and Justice Ayesha Malik.
The court stated, “The people have chosen their representatives for five years; it would be better if the PTI performed its genuine responsibility in parliament.”
The SC delayed the case, echoing the high court’s decision, but raised concerns about how “interfering with the powers of the speaker” would undermine the court’s jurisdiction over the subject.
