ISLAMABAD: Chaudhry Shujaat, president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), on Monday extended an olive branch to his cousin Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and urged him to put a stop to the animosity between the Chaudhrys of Gujrat.
At a news conference in Islamabad, Mr. Shujaat, joined by PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema, warned the media that “false narratives” about the party’s division were being circulated. He continued by saying that those close to Mr. Elahi, who won PTI backing to become Punjab’s chief minister, made “false” claims.
The PML-Q leader went into great depth about the issues that caused him and Mr. Elahi to disagree. But he also urged the party’s reconciliation after a fight over the choice of the Punjab chief minister.
Despite a letter from the president claiming otherwise, the party also didn’t seem eager to take the matter before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the disqualification of the MPAs who supported Mr. Elahi.
The majority of the media’s queries were answered by Mr. Cheema because Mr. Shujaat is having health issues and his voice was challenging to understand. On behalf of the party president, Mr. Cheema answered to a question on the disqualification of the PML-Q MPAs in Punjab by saying that the legal team will make a decision once the Supreme Court’s entire judgement was available.
