ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the Sindh government’s appeal to delay the local body elections on Tuesday and ordered the province administration to maintain peace and order.The Sindh administration had asked the ECP to again postpone the local body elections the day before, citing insufficient police resources to maintain the province’s peace and order situation.
The provincial administration and law enforcement agencies are in charge of preserving law and order during the election, according to the ECP’s response.According to the election commission, the provincial administration “shall ensure that police personnel are deployed during polls in Karachi.”
Sikandar Sultan Raja, the chief election commissioner (CEC), adding that the electoral commission should get in touch with the federal interior and defence ministries to secure the deployment of rangers and army troops in vulnerable Karachi constituencies.On October 16, 2022, there will be by-elections in nine National Assembly constituencies and three provincial constituencies, it was revealed during the meeting today, which was presided over by CEC.
