“Diabetic patients must practise good oral hygiene”
ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, a specialist emphasised the urgent necessity for diabetic patients to routinely monitor their blood sugar levels in order to preserve their general health and prevent dental problems that could cause more serious health consequences.
Speaking to the media, leading dental surgeon Dr. Awais Khan Rubbani emphasised the need of educating people about oral health issues because, in his opinion, a healthy smile has significant value in both the social and professional realms of life.
According to Dr. Rubbani, dental infections in people with diabetes might negatively affect their overall blood sugar levels. He added that despite the fact that they are particularly susceptible to toothaches and gum disorders, a considerable proportion of diabetic patients have a tendency to disregard their dental health. He added that these problems frequently emerge owing to poorly controlled diabetes, ultimately leading to raised blood glucose levels.
In response to a query, he clarified that eating is essential for keeping one’s health. He emphasised that choosing a well-balanced diet and avoiding sugary foods can help prevent gum disease, tooth loss, and even oral cancer.
People will be more at risk if they frequently consume foods that are very acidic or sweet.
