All-rounder Daryl Mitchell will remain in the New Zealand team for the T20 World Cup in Australia and may be able to make a full recovery in time for the Black Caps’ opening match against the hosts on October 22.Mitchell missed the current tri-series at home against Pakistan and Bangladesh after breaking his right little finger last week.
Following examinations on his injury, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead stated that Mitchell had a good prognosis.Stead told reporters on Monday, “We’re still hopeful he might be fit for the first game, but certainly more realistically in the second game.
The second game will take place on October 26 at Melbourne Cricket Ground and will feature New Zealand, which finished second to Australia in the United Arab Emirates last year.Despite having a cast on his hand on Monday, middle-order batsman and seam bowler Mitchell said it was a huge relief to be cleared for the World Cup.
