For her debut production, Alia Bhatt returns in her infamous Gully Boy sweet girl-turned-street wolf look, but this time, as she experiences a deceptive betrayal, her mother (Shefali Shah) has her back. Darlings, a dark comedy about an unconventional mother-daughter team, makes several allusions to suspenseful subplots involving murder, romance, retaliation, and investigation.
It’s only a prank, darlings. Darlings on Netflix is coming on August 5,” Bhatt wrote alongside the teaser on her social media. With the caption “Kya ek meindak aur bichhoo dost ho sakte hain?,” Costar Shah also shared the image. “(Can a frog and a scorpion be friends?)” the clip’s fable is titled.
A thriller through and through, the over-a-minute teaser begins with Bhatt’s captivating voice narrating the famous frog and scorpion fable. The shots unfold the story of Bhatt’s romantic relationship with Vijay Sharma from their meet-cutes to a marriage blessed by Shah.
The teaser depicts a hurt and bewildered Bhatt, a menacing Sharma, a jealous Roshan Mathew, and a mother-daughter pair at a police station for a murder investigation as the story draws closer to the scorpion showing its true colours.
The actor from Gangubai Kathiawadi is seen in the final shots sporting a red pout and an off-the-shoulder blood red dress while looking in the mirror and appearing to be planning something vengeful or rebellious.
