New Delhi and pro-India factions of Non-Resident Indians have voiced vehement opposition to the Referendum movement, which asks Sikhs to vote on whether or not Punjab is controlled by India.
The unofficial referendum has drawn condemnation from NRIs, and the Indian government has proactively referred to it as “terrorism” and designated SFJ, the referendum’s proponent, as an unlawful organisation under the contentious Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) of India.
