Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif against a tax on the income of diplomats posted abroad after the foreign ministry officials took a strong exception against it.
According to sources privy to the matter, the foreign minister had to write a letter to the prime minister after the foreign ministry officials expressed their strong reservations against it.
Due to the introduction of the new tax, they claimed that even diplomats had not received their pay from the previous month.
According to the letter, this is the first time a tax has been levied on foreign ministry employees who are assigned abroad. It claimed that the implementation of the foreign allowance tax will cause financial difficulties for diplomats.
In his letter, Bilawal Bhutto complained that the government had taxed salaries rather than raising wages. He added that the levy had been implemented without consulting the foreign ministry.
PM Shehbaz Sharif was requested by the foreign ministry to reconsider his choice about the foreign allowance tax.
