ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government’s political victimization of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader’s Jirga in Dera Ismail Khan was sharply denounced by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the party’s chairman, on Sunday (KP).
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari
Ahmad Kundi, a PPP member of the KP Assembly, and Makhdoom Altaf Hussain Shah, the mayor of Paharpur, organised a Jirga of residents from three villages to discuss the issue of flooding in their communities.
MPA Ahmad Kundi said the police fired and shelled the Jirga resultantly three people were injured. He said the Jirga has failed due to the incompetence of Dera Ismail Khan DSP Fazl-ur-Rahim who should be suspended immediately. He also demanded that KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and IG Police take notice of the incident. The RPO DIK has said that the matter is being investigated.
According to Kundi, a significant volume of water from Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and Gomal has invaded Tehsil Paharpur, prompting residents to move to his constituency. PPP Chairman Bilawal observed the situation and denounced the police’s shooting and shelling of residents in Tehsil Paharpur of Dera Ismail Khan.
According to Bilawal, the police’s response to the assembly of three villagers was egregious hooliganism. According to him, the police action in front of elected officials MPA Ahmed Karim Kundi and Mayor Altaf Shah appears to be an act of political retaliation.
