DHAKA: Tuesday afternoon saw massive blackouts in Bangladesh that left at least 130 million people without power, according to the government’s power utility firm.Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, increasing global energy prices have caused a serious power problem in Bangladesh, which has forced regular service cuts to preserve electricity.
The Power Development Board reported that Tuesday’s unplanned blackout, which affected more than 80% of the nation just after 2 pm local time (0800 GMT), is still under investigation.
According to Shamim Ahsan, spokeswoman for the Power Development Board, “the remainder of the country is without power” with the exception of a few places in northwest Bangladesh.According to Ahsan, at least 130 million people were without energy, and the root of the problem was yet unknown. He stated that the incident was still being looked into and that a technical issue was most likely to blame.
