PESHAWAR: On Saturday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali designated former bureaucrat Azam Khan temporary chief minister.
The governor made the order following the unexpected nomination of Azam Khan for the office by retiring Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and the leader of the opposition, Akram Khan Durrani, on Friday.
In accordance with Clause (IA) of Article 224 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973, I, HAM GHULAM ALI, the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hereby nominate Mr. M. Azam Khan as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Muhammad Azam Khan has a lengthy and illustrious career as a civil servant in the Pakistani government.
In the past, he has served as the KP Minister of Finance, the Planning and Development Department, the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, and the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
In the KP administration, he had previously held important positions including Chief Secretary and Secretary of numerous ministries. Prior to finishing his barrister-at-law requirements at Lincoln’s Inn in London, Mr. Khan pursued his undergraduate education at the University of Peshawar.
