ISLAMABAD: Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman demanded at the Petersburg Dialogue on multilateral climate negotiations a clear resetting of the global climate agenda, for equitable resourcing of change, new objectives, and an accelerated pace of operationalization of pledges already made as well as new ambitions that address the needs of developing countries before the crucial Conference of Parties (COP) 27 in November in Egypt.
Rehman spoke during the ministerial discussion, which was jointly sponsored by Germany and Egypt. According to a news release that was delivered to this location on Monday, “We convene here today at a vital inflection moment in global negotiations on pace and magnitude of Climate Change.”
Sherry stated that Pakistan has been exposed to a wide range of risks due to its exceptional vulnerability to accelerated climate-induced catastrophes. She claimed that as a result of all these changes, Pakistan has become the epicentre of a climate catastrophe, with exponential impacts on land, water, and underwater life. As such, Pakistan serves as the ideal illustration of all the catastrophes associated with climate stress.
