Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, the first female commander from Europe to command the International Space Station, responded to queries from young girls while being accompanied by a Barbie doll impersonator.Recently, Cristoforetti found some time to talk about some of the ISS experiments and respond to inquiries from five European girls between the ages of 8 and 11. As she talked, her Barbie spacesuit-clad was floating in a weightless environment.
When asked why she chose to pursue a career in space exploration, the 45-year-old replied, “As a child, I was attracted by the night sky, the thought of travelling to another planet, and the sense of adventure and discovery.”After that, I developed an interest in science and technology; I also really enjoyed flying, so I decided to become a pilot. And being an astronaut kind of combines all of my hobbies and passions, “She stated.
