The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission, a NASA spacecraft that was sent into orbit ten months ago, is getting ready to collide with an asteroid on September 26.
To see how it influences an asteroid’s speed in space, the spacecraft will crash into an asteroid’s moon. The mission will focus on a tiny moon called Dimorphos that orbits the asteroid Didymos, which is close to the Earth.
The asteroid is the ideal way to evaluate the capabilities of the DART Mission because it poses no threat to Earth.NASA will be able to show off the mission’s deflection technology through this test.
