ISLAMABAD: According to Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, any of the five candidates could be chosen to serve as the next chief of army staff.Asif stated in a press conference that the procedure would begin either by the end of this month or the beginning of the following and that it would be carried out in accordance with the law and the Constitution.
Asif continued by saying that the choice of any name submitted by the Ministry of Defense is up to the current prime minister.The defence minister claimed that in the past, candidates other than the five put out for the position of military leader had also been picked.
All three-star generals are eligible for this, the defence minister remarked while discussing the appointment of the army chief based on seniority.The minister also addressed the likelihood of the next general elections and assured voters that they will go place on schedule.Asif made fun of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s anxiety over the selection of the military’s top brass by claiming that while the former premier is concerned about November approaching, the month would go well.
