Syed Altaf Ahmed Shah, a verteran Kashmiri leader, freedom fighter
and son-in-law of All Parties Hurriat Conference (APHC) Syed Ali Gillani
died under the custody of Indian Police. He was cancer patient and
temporarily he was admit in All India Institute of Medical Sciences
(AIIMS). He was under the custody of Indian Police in so-called Tehar
jail in Srinagar. Altaf Shah’s death on 10 th October 2022 Monday night and
laid to rest in his ansectoral grave yard.

Indian authorities despite knowing that he is cancer patient and
seriously ill but he was not given proper medical treatment. He
approached the court and requested to provide him medical treatment
owing to day-by-day falling health. Following the court order, he was
immediately shifted to (AIIMS) on 5 th October, 2022.
He was considered the top freedom fighter leader and leading
politician of Indian Illegal Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK). He was
senior leader of APHC and true followers of its Chairman Syed Ali
Gillani who devoted his life for the liberation of Kashmir.
He started his political carrier in 1990. He was one of those who
joined the freedom movement of Syed Ali Gillani in 2004. He was a great
supporter of negotiations with all the factions and parties of
the longstanding Kashmir dispute.
He was arrested on 25th of July in 2017 along with other Kashmiri
leaders including Shahid Islam, a close aide of Mir Waiz Maulvi Umer
Farooq and Ayaz Akber, a spokesperson of APHC Gillani group during
protest rally in Soup or, area of IIOJK capital Srinagar against the charges

of providing financial assistance to National Investigation Agency and
other freedom fighters. After their arrest, they were immediately shifted
to interrogation cell and then shifted to jail for fourteen days judicial
remand but unfortunately, this remand has never come to an end and
extended for an indefinite time.
Indian authorities despite knowing that Altaf Shah is severely suffering
in various diseases including kidney, sugar, lung, and cancer, he was
treated as a common patient.
Although, his daughter Rida Shah, a journalist by profession in her
the tweet drew the attention of authorities concerned about the speedy
falling health of his father, but authorities did not bother to pay
attention and categorically violated the basic human rights which have
disclosed the true face of India before the international community.
Altaf Shah is the fourth Hurriyat leader who died under the custody of
Indian police and sacrificed his life for the sacred cause of freedom of
Kashmir.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has strongly condemned and
protested to the Indian ambassador in Ministry and demanded to probe
the death of Great Kashmir leader Syed Altaf Shah.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed
deep grief and sorrow over the death of Altaf Shah and held
responsible Modi fascist government for the death of a prominent Kashmiri
leader.
All the patriot circles of the country have strongly condemned this
the heinous act of the Indian government and demanded the world bodies,
human rights organizations to take action against India.
