The development of endocrinology in Pakistan was a “unmet demand” that required dedication, according to Pakistani endocrinologist Dr. Tasnim Ahsan, who was the first person from his nation to receive the Endocrine Society’s coveted Laureate Award in 2023.
The “International Excellence in Endocrinology” award was given to the founding dean of the Medicell Institute of Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism in Karachi and professor emerita at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for their outstanding contributions to the field in regions with limited resources for hormone health research, education, clinical practise, or administration.
The well-known clinician and educator from around the world described how she went from working as an endocrinologist at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to being the first Pakistani to receive the Laureate Award.
She told Geo.tv that she made the decision to start the first centre for the treatment of endocrine system-related health problems in the year 1993.
