PESHAWAR: An audit investigation revealed fraud totaling billions of rupees in the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.Over Rs47 billion were reportedly spent without receiving the law department’s consent. It revealed that a consultant received a mobilisation advance payment of over Rs 90 million.
Additionally, the audit noted that a sum of Rs. 21.13 million has yet to be recouped from the contractor.According to the study, “a strange amount of Rs3.6 million was made for petrol despite the stoppage of BRT operations,” and “there is no record of the BRT management paying Rs310 million as dues to the contractor.”
It was also mentioned that 122 or so trees were removed for the project close to Dabgari Garden. For Rs420,000, trees with a value of Rs2.4 million were sold.
According to the findings, a Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) employee was improperly employed as a resettlement consultant and was still receiving pay from both PDA and BRT.
