Turkey Mine Blast
AMASRA: The body of the final missing miner was discovered on Saturday by rescuers in a coal mine in northern Turkey, bringing the total number of fatalities from a methane blast the day before to 41.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the announcement that the final person still missing had been confirmed dead shortly after he arrived at the scene on Saturday afternoon.
“Finding the miners in the gallery was our top priority. Finally, we got to the last one. He also passed away, bringing the total to 41 “At that point, more than 20 hours after the fatal explosion, the rescue effort was put to a stop.
Suleyman Soylu, the interior minister, had earlier claimed that 58 miners had escaped the explosion “either by themselves or thanks to rescuers.”
He said that the explosion had injured 28 individuals.
Late on Friday, footage on television showed groups of worried people, some of whom had tears in their eyes, swarming around a damaged white structure next to the pit’s entrance in quest of word of their friends and loved ones.
Erdogan had earlier promised on Twitter that a full investigation would be conducted into the event.
The majority of the first information of individuals trapped inside was provided by employees who were able to escape relatively unscathed.
Recai Cakir, the mayor of Amasra, claimed that many of the survivors had sustained “severe injuries.”
Maden of Turkey The explosion was blamed by the mining employees’ union on a buildup of methane gas.
However, other officials said that it was too early to determine the accident’s exact cause.
