In India on Sunday, two ladies were detained for attempting to sell a 15-day-old newborn girl to another couple.According to the police, a couple from Pune submitted an adoption application months earlier.
They subsequently received word that a mother was looking to sell a newborn child for 450,000.
The couple alerted a member of staff at the adoption centre in Pune after feeling something wasn’t right.
Investigation found that Mumbai was the source of the messages, and the social service section pressed the municipality to check into the matter.
The women, Shabana Shaikh, 30, and Julia Fernandez, 35, had agreed to meet at a nursing home in Sion Koliwada to transact the sale of the child.
However, the police quickly detained Shaikh and Fernandez when the accused gave the infant to the officers in plain clothes. The infant daughter was reportedly born to another couple in Delhi before being given to Shaikh and Fernandez.
