LAHORE: On Friday evening, the Punjab Assembly began voting on the motion of no-confidence brought up against Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari. After the deputy speaker’s relationships with the party worsened, the PTI brought forth the no-trust resolution against him.
Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI, and other party officials harshly criticised Mazari for his decision, which prevented Pervez Elahi from becoming the chief minister after he rejected 10 votes from the PML-Q, allowing Hamza Shahbaz to keep the position.
However, the loss was only temporary because the Supreme Court overturned Mazari’s decision and reinstated Elahi, the nominee endorsed by Khan, as the chief minister.Empty ballot boxes were on display in the House before the vote.
Sibtain Khan of the PTI, on the other hand, was chosen as the Punjab Assembly’s speaker today.
After former officeholder Elahi was chosen as the next chief minister of Punjab on Tuesday, July 26, the position of speaker of the Punjab Assembly became vacant.
