Four people were hurt in an explosion that occurred inside Kabul’s primary cricket stadium on Friday during a domestic league match, according to a representative of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
Nassib Khan, the chief executive of ACB, stated in a statement that “the match was going on between two teams in the Shpageza League, and during the match, a blast happened; four civilians in the crowd have been injured.”
Players and staff of the ACB were secure, he continued.
The explosion was caused by a grenade, according to a spokesman for the Kabul Commander.
For a while, the game came to a halt. The game resumed after the area was cleaned up, according to spokesman Khalid Zadran.
In spite of scarce resources and domestic unrest, cricket is a hugely popular sport in Afghanistan, where the national team consistently performs well on the international stage. Several Afghans are among the best athletes in the world.
Afghanistan has a weekly holiday on Friday, and the stadium had a sizable crowd due to the eight-team domestic league, which has been going on for the past ten days.
