The Tempest, a futuristic fighter jet from the UK, will have an AI, AR, and VR flight control system. The cockpit won’t have any physical controls or screens since the cutting-edge technology will try to read the pilots’ minds to monitor their surroundings and condition.
The Tempest will require “scalable autonomy,” or a mix of human and machine control, as opposed to drones, which will be entirely automated. The pilot’s helmet will feature sensors, and the AI will analyse brain signals using those sensors and the AI.
If the pilot becomes unresponsive or is under stress, the AI will also be able to take over. The pilot’s condition will be monitored by the cockpit equipment using eye tracking, particularly if they are fatigued or under stress. In order to improve situational awareness, it is anticipated that the AI, VR, and AR will gather and evaluate data before presenting it to the pilot.
