Omar Khalid Hussain, the top amateur golfer in Pakistan, created history on Wednesday by becoming the first golfer from his country to qualify for the round in the 74th US Junior Amateur Golf Championship at Bandon Dunes in Oregon, United States.
At the windy Bandon Dune course, Omar, 18, was in fine form throughout the second and final round of stroke play as he recorded seven birdies for a fantastic total of two under par. Omar’s heroics allowed him to reach the cut with a two-day total of 143 after shooting 73 on Tuesday at the Bandon Trails course.
Yashal Shah, a fellow countryman of Omar’s, shot a second-round score of 77 at Bandon Dunes after shooting 75 on the opening day at Bandon Trails, dropping out of contention to advance to the matchplay round of what is regarded as the most prestigious junior golf competition in the world.
