ISLAMABAD: In order to request the creation of a full bench to hear the matter pertaining to the election of the Punjab chief minister, the coalition government and parties of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) decided to file a petition with the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Sunday.
The PTI’s appeal challenging Dost Mazari’s decision as Punjab’s deputy speaker during the CM election will be heard by the nation’s highest court.
Mazari had already rejected 10 votes from PML-Q members by citing Article 63(A) of the Constitution at the time of the voting procedure. As a result of defeating PTI candidate Pervez Elahi by three votes, Hamza Shahbaz of the PML-N was able to keep his position as chief minister.
The PTI had petitioned the supreme court about Mazari’s decision because it was “unconstitutional and illegal” and they were unhappy with it.
The government and its allies will ask for the creation of a full bench to hear the case involving the election of the province’s chief minister, the SCBA’s revision petition, and related petitions all at once.
