ISLAMABAD: The government will name a new State Bank of Pakistan governor in the upcoming week, according to Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, who made the announcement on Thursday. The position has been vacant for more than two months.
The nation’s finance czar announced that the next governor will be named the following week while speaking at a press conference with Defense Minister Khawaja Asif.
Miftah told the press that Acting SBP Governor Murtaza Syed had nothing to do with the falling value of the rupee when discussing it.The local currency would stabilise versus the dollar next month, he predicted.
The finance minister declared, “Pressure is coming on the currency due to import payments of $7.5 billion,” adding that the political crisis that followed PML-crushing N’s defeat in the July 17 by-elections had also put pressure on the rupee.
