LONDON: After a court approved a lawsuit alleging that the Alphabet-owned tech giant overcharged 19.5 million customers for app store purchases, A 920 million pound ($1.1 billion) damages action against Google will now go to trial in London.
The Competition Appeal Tribunal on Monday certified a class action lawsuit that claims Google misused its dominant position by imposing up to a 30% commission on well-known apps ,Roblox, Candy Crush Saga, and Tinder have all been available on the Play Store since October 2015.
A representative for the claimant group said on Tuesday that a full ruling has not yet been made public.Requests for comments were not immediately answered by Google.
Regulators, competitors, and consumer advocates are suing companies like Google and rival Apple for alleged anti-competitive behaviour in an effort to rein in Big Tech.
