ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office spokeswoman on Tuesday referred to Shahbaz Gill, the chief of staff for PTI Chairman Imran Khan, as making “baseless” accusations that the then-foreign minister and prime minister were unaware of the cypher that contained the claimed threat to Pakistan.
“Such a question just doesn’t come up. The Foreign Office runs on a professional basis, thus it would be harmful to question how it functions, according to the spokeswoman. “Cypher was kept a secret from the foreign minister and prime minister at the time. I was told by Shah Mahmood Qureshi,” Gill told the media.
He continued by saying that Qureshi received the cypher after asking the foreign secretary about it, and the former foreign minister then delivered it to the prime minister. At a Jalsa on March 27, the then-prime minister Khan accused the US of meddling in Pakistani politics and planning to overthrow his government by introducing a no-trust resolution in the National Assembly.
At the public event, the prime minister also presented a “threat letter” that claimed that a “foreign country,” presumably the United States, had “warned of severe consequences if he remains in power.”
