KARACHI: On Saturday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a warning about the potential for heavy rain tomorrow and tonight. A low pressure system in the southeast Arabian Sea, according to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, could deliver Karachi and other cities in Sindh severe rain.
After a hot and steamy day, a strong monsoon system over the northeast Arabian Sea and the neighbouring Rann of Kutch, moving up to Southeast Sindh, brought light rain to various sections of Karachi on Friday night. Prior to today, Sarfaraz had predicted that the monsoon system would likely bring additional rain, including some heavy rainfall in Karachi, through Monday (Saturday).

According to PMD officials, from Saturday to Monday, there will likely be heavy downpours and widespread rain in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparker, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allayar, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Noushero Feroz, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Dadu, Jamshoro They issued a warning that heavy rains could cause urban flooding or water logging in low-lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Dadu, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur.
Officials from PMD claim that flash flooding and hill torrents could develop along and downstream of the Kirthar range as a result of extended periods of heavy precipitation.
