BARCELONA: According to club president Joan Laporta, Barcelona is anticipating “a positive response” from Bayern Munich after making an offer for their Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.
During the introduction of the new signing Andreas Christensen, Laporta stated, “We have made an offer for the player, we are waiting for the response, and we will see if it is positive.”
Lewandowski has expressed a strong desire to leave the German champions this summer, but Bayern have insisted that he must honour his contract, which expires in June 2023.
Laporta said, “We thank the player (Lewandowski) for all the indications he has made that he wants to come.
In 252 games over eight years for Bayern, the 33-year-old striker, who was twice named FIFA’s best male player, scored 238 Bundesliga goals in the Bundesliga.
Laporta did not disclose the financial terms of the offer but stated that they wanted to respect Bayern. He denied, however, rumours that the German club demanded upfront payment for the transfer of Lewandowski because they were concerned about Barcelona’s financial situation.
Laporte replied, “I don’t think it’s true. “I think it was a joke and that the information came from a cat. It doesn’t originate in Bayern.”
The German media reported at the end of June that Barca had made Bayern an offer of 40 million euros plus a 5 million euro bonus for the Pole.
Without providing any additional information, Laporta merely stated, “We made an offer, and they now must weigh it.”
Jordi Cruyff, the club’s sporting advisor, announced at the same press conference that French defender Clement Lenglet would likely leave the team and soon join Tottenham on loan.
Cruyff stated, “We are very close to departing, and it will be announced when it is official.
