Sania Mirza, a tennis prodigy from India, announced on Thursday that she would miss the Wimbledon Championship, bidding farewell to the event where she competed for her nation for more than a decade.
“The fight, the tears, and the struggle… It wasn’t meant to be this time at Wimbledon, but you have been nothing short of spectacular, the tennis ace wrote in a tweet. “The work we put in is all worth it in the end.
The Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik’s wife, a tennis pro, said it was an honor to play and win at Wimbledon.
“I’m going to miss you. Up until then,” she remarked

The defending champions, Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk, defeated Mirza and her partner Mate Pavic in the semifinals, ending Mirza’s hopes of winning a first Wimbledon mixed doubles title.
Sania had previously advanced to the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles competition at Wimbledon in 2011, 2013, and 2015.
The most accomplished tennis player from India is this 35-year-old. Three of her six Grand Slam victories have been in the mixed doubles category.
In 2009 at the Australian Open, in 2012 at the French Open with Mahesh Bhupathi, and in 2014 at the US Open with Brazilian Bruno Soares, Mirza won the mixed doubles competitions.
After winning the women’s doubles championship in 2015, the Indian star has now said goodbye to Wimbledon.
She claimed in a previous tweet that playing sports drains you emotionally, physically, and mentally.
“The wins and the losses […] long workdays and sleepless nights following crushing defeats. However, you get so much in return from it that not many other “jobs” can,” she said.
