Mihaela Buzarnescu, a tennis player from Romania, was asked to change her bra after entering the court prior to the start of her match against Nastasja Schunk in the first round of the Wimbledon tournament because it was against the dress code.
The Grand Slam’s regulations prohibit wearing anything other than white clothing, including undergarments. Cream or off-white hues are also prohibited.
According to Tennis World, Wimbledon officials saw Buzarnescu’s “illegal” undergarment while she was warming up. She was then made aware of the irregularity, and she was forced to make a change.
Buzarnescu complained that her black bra was “too black” and that her white bra was “too transparent.”
She was forced to take the outfit from her coach.
The match’s eventual victor, Buzarnescu, said, “That’s good, we did it.”
“…all my work over the past few weeks has paid off today, and I’m overjoyed I was able to pull off this victory,” Buzarnescu told Eurosport.
